Enjoy An Evening Out Without Having To Worry About The Babysitter

All couples eventually need a night out without the kids.  Watching movies without cartoon characters and going out to eat while actually having a conversation with your spouse instead of tending to your toddler who has decided to throw an impromptu tantrum is not only nice, it is recommended for good health and the health of your relationship with your spouse.  Many families have grown increasingly concerned about hiring a babysitter.  There have been multiple stories about babysitters stealing items of value from children and claiming that the child must have lost the item at school.  Worse, there have been cases where babysitters have neglected to watch the children and instead decided to invite friends over.  In other cases, babysitters have left the premises altogether with small children home alone.  Every parent’s worst nightmare is leaving their child with someone who decided to actively abuse the child.  Instead of sacrificing date night, invest in a mini spy camera for areas of your home where you suspect something might be amiss.

Keep your children safe

As a parent, it is ultimately your responsibility to keep your children safe.  Increased security measures do not have to be drastic, bizarre, or expensive.  Investing in small spy cameras can be a good way to make sure your kids are safe and you can enjoy your night out.  Spy cameras come in many different forms that can easily blend into your home.  For example, some spy cameras are almost impossible to differentiate from a normal digital clock, coat hook, pen, or smoke detector.  All of these items are typically found in homes, and they are unlikely to raise suspicion or let a babysitter know when she is being watched and when she is not.  Often, it is safe to assume that a nanny or babysitter does not know where a number of small spy cameras are located and the corresponding blind spots.  If you do not see anything unusual after watching some footage and do not notice any signs of theft, neglect, or abuse, you can rest assured for the time being.

Quality babysitter turned thief or abuser

It is common for babysitters to build a trusting relationship with a family before committing any sort of wrongdoing.  Many babysitters enjoy caring for children and are stellar at their jobs.  However, some babysitters view earning a family’s trust as a prerequisite before engaging in unethical or illegal behaviors.  Babysitters who have frequent access to your home and bad intentions might think that they will not be suspected of wrongdoing after a good track record that could span several months.  Always rely on your gut feeling.  If you suspect something is wrong, it is always better to have access to video footage.  You can either put your mind at ease or fire the babysitter and press charges immediately.

The best evidence available

Video footage is often the best evidence available in any sort of investigation.  By being diligent and having video footage readily available, you can try to make sure that another trusting family is not taken advantage of.  Hopefully, all footage will show nothing unusual and you can simply live your life and enjoy date nights.

  1. I think the hidden camera is a great idea. It is astounding how many children are abused and even more astounding is, sometimes, WHO abuses them.
Many couples in our area exchange baby sitting service and that way it isn't even an added expense. Couples need to continue to date and court each other to keep their relationship alive.

  3. Our babysitter is great, but these days, you never know... it might be a good idea to have one of these hidden cameras around. Thanks for the post.

  4. This is a great idea. We so far have not had to leave our kids with anyone except close, trusted adult friends but I am sure that will change.

  5. My little man has never been left with a babysitter...really even only left with one of his grandparents a handful of times (mostly due to distance in that case!)... if we ever had to leave him with a babysitter, this would certainly put my mind at ease. Our son has Autism, and unfortunately, it's not uncommon for kids on the spectrum to be abused by caregivers, simply because they don't often have the communication to let someone know something is going on...perhaps I'm paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to my little man's safety!!

  7. This is a fantastic idea to keep our kids safe and parents free of worry. I do not have young kids anymore but I was always worried about the babysitter/interaction with my kids, specially when they were very young and could not tell me what they did during our absence. Great post.
