Add a hands-on experience to your end of summer to-do list before Stingray Touch closes
WHAT: As summer fades to fall, don’t miss the opportunity to feel the wonder and underwater grace of stingrays in the hands-on experience at Shedd Aquarium, Stingray Touch, open through October 2013. Located under a tented structure on the aquarium’s south terrace, the 18,000-gallon habitat features approximately 40 cownose rays (Rhinoptera bonasus) and yellow rays (Urobatis jamaicensis). The diamond-shaped cownose ray glides through the water with a wingspan of up to 3 feet long. Guests have exceptional views of the rays’ natural behaviors across the 80-foot-long and 22-foot-wide habitat.
Guided by Shedd staff, the 15-minute touch experience provides interesting facts about stingrays, including information about how choosing sustainable seafood protects stingrays in global waters.
WHEN: Open daily through Labor Day; Saturdays and Sundays in September and October, weather permitting
WHERE: John G. Shedd Aquarium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago
TICKETS: Add-on to Shedd Pass for $5 per person ($3 for members)

ReplyDeleteDid this at Mandalay Bay in Vegas. They feel so very strange and alien. I highly recommend getting to your local aquarium and doing something like this, especially if you have kids.
ReplyDeleteI would love to watch them, but I am not sure I would touch. I don't know why they scare me, I have touched other scary creatures.
