Summer is water parks, ocean trips, beach side play dates,
and wet and wild fun in a sprinkler. There’s no end to the water fun for
summer, which should make it no surprise that August is National Water Quality
Month. It should also not be a surprise that a company with quality in the name
is celebrating this quality month.
Quality Mat, a manufacturer of swamp and bog mats for sale and rent, is promoting
National Water Quality Month on their blog, Facebook and Twitter. I found this
family run company in my newsfeed, and was delighted to see how many charitable
works they promote. As part of the monthly celebrations, there will be
information on water quality and safety shared as well. Here are a few tips
from the EPA for quality water tips.
- Take shorter showers.
- Conserve water in lawn watering.
- Switch from baths to showers.
- Water early in the day, and for deep, penetrating soaks.
- Check your pipes and faucets for leaks.
- Use a broom, not a hose to clean the driveway.
Safe water fun helps improves the quality of life – so be
sure to have a safe and fun summer!
We have been already having to conserve water in our state this past month. It is the little things you pay attention to that can make a big difference.
ReplyDeleteWe got rain barrels this spring and I LOVE them! It is plenty to water our flowers and landscaping.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Also, on the point of conserving water, I saw new shower heads that use WAY less water when you shower, but do not seem like they do. If you install one of those, it helps even if you take a longer shower. Just an idea.
ReplyDeleteWe probably use more water than some families because we cloth diaper, but that is eco friendly in other ways. Break even?
ReplyDeleteSaving water is really important,I am so glad someone is promoting that!
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing these helpful tips. we also turn the water off whil brushing our teeth/
ReplyDeleteThe water in my city often smells of chlorine. I've been considering getting a filter system for that as well as the high fluoride in the water. Having a water filter that you have to fill would also be a good way to monitor how much water you consume just from drinking. Also, it would make it less likely that you would leave the tap running.
ReplyDeleteThis is something we need to work on in my family. There are 9 of us and I am very concerned wiht our water usage, as well as energy consumption. I get so nervous when I hear the water on too long or they want to take a lingering shower.
ReplyDeletewe also turn the water off while brushing our teeth
ReplyDeleteone thing we do to conserve water is to turn it off while brushing out teeth
ReplyDeletewe turn off the water while brushing our teeth to save water consumption
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. I needed a reminder. We are always trying to conserve water/energy, but in the middle of summer we sometimes slack a bit.
ReplyDeleteI used to always use water to clean my deck. Since then, I moved. But we do try to conserve water now that we have a water bill. We have sensor fill washer now.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame the way a lot of people just waste water.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard when August is the HOTTEST month here.
ReplyDeleteWe do not have a lot of choice. This month we have only a few limited hours on specific days in which to water our gardens and yards before city cuts off water supply and pressure.
I could have been ignorant if i didn't see this post. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThose are all very good tips. It's so important to conserve water.I personally have no problem letting my lawn turn brown. It's better than mowing!
ReplyDeleteSaving water- I definitely do my bit to help the cause! Using bucket of water for bathing instead of shower/bathtub and for washing cars
ReplyDeleteugh..............guilty of using the hose on the driveway! I've never even thought about it! But I will now!
ReplyDeleteConsider me signed up! I can handle all of those. Little changes make a difference.
ReplyDeleteWe have so many European immigrants in our neighborhood and it kills me every time I see them cleaning their driveways and sidewalks with the hose! I love that they take such beautiful care of their homes, but how do I let them know this just isn't OK??!!
ReplyDeleteWe always are sure to do all of these things to save water
ReplyDeleteSoaking your dishes can save a little bit of water too! I soak ours, and it definitely cuts down on the amount of time I have the water running while trying to scrape off bits of dried food.
ReplyDeletewhen i used to clean homes for a living i had a client who insisted her garage, patio, and driveway were hosed, bleaches, swept, then hosed again EVERY WEEK. it aggravated me to no end. here i had to use a chemical i was allergic to and she was not ever convinced it was clean enough, she would give me 15 minutes to do all three areas, didnt want anything splashed, couldnt get water on the lawn you know, that was wasteful.. . I will never understand why people are soo fastidious about something like that, to the point of wastefulness..
ReplyDeleteGreat pointers for people. I know people that waste water and it really bothers me. If everyone would use these tips it would save tons of water.
ReplyDeleteI replaced all of my toliet parts and I am now using rain water from a barrel for watering my plants. I have a new car I have never washed, lol - I tell my friends thats what the rain is for! ha ha
ReplyDeleteGreat tips, I save water by not running the water when I brush my teeth.
